No, &quot;expelled from Monastir&quot; (Present day Bitola, Macedonia).  My guess is that he was expelled because of the jurisdictional disunity there: besides the Phanar (the Turks of course classed all the Christians as &quot;Millet-i Rum&quot;), the Church of Romania (a majority of the population was Vlach), the Church of Serbia (including not only the local Serbs but also the Macedonians the Serbs were claiming), and the Bulgarian Exarchate (which claimed the local Bulgarians and the Macedonians too) competed for jurisdiction.  The place was well known, being &quot;the city of Consuls&quot;-it had 12.

Fortescue has a contemporary account of the squabble in the area, where a Greek Metropoitan was booted from Uskub (Skopje) to Manastir to make way for a Serb bishop, causing the local Greeks to go into schism.

Fortescue predicted that at least two new autocephalous Churches (Romanian, Serbian) would arise in the area.  The Balkan Wars and WWI prevented that.  However, Manastir was purchased from the Phanar by the new united Patriarch of Serbia, without reference to Bulgarian cliams, which is how it now is involved in the Macedonian/Serbian Church dispute today.]]></description>
